Re: Creo Parametric resources for a beginner?

Louis Gary Lamit has published some great books for PTC software.  I bought my first book, Pro|Engineer 2000i2, and it was very detailed and helpful.  Of course, these books are not free, but they are worth the money if you're learning.  Creo Parametric 3.0 text book will be out in December 2014.  Here's the link to all his works.

Creo 3.0 startup batch file

Hello,

I'm working on my Creo 3 install batch file. I am using David's tokenizing ptcstatus.bat in Creo 2.0 to identify the buildecode allowing me to copy files down to clients to standardize the configuration.

Creo 3.0 installs to a path with the build code in it. C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 3.0\F000\Parametric

Creo 2.0 did not:C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 2.0\Parametric

Problem is, this forces the path (eg. build code) to be know to run any standardization batch file.

Has anyone overcome this issue yet?

I suppose I could use IF EXIST statements to identify the folder...

Thanks for you thoughts, Vaughn

Final Update: In the end, I reinstalled M050 in an isolated machine and reloaded the files. This replicated the issue, and I fixed the BOM there. They are being reviewed at this time and no issues so far.

Looking forward to M130. This goign back and forth in versions shouldn't happen.

Thank you for all your help.Regards

I'm sure some people have early access but I'm not one of them.  The best I can do is refer you to the product calendar.

One thing to note. Is it looks like it grabs the last folder in that directory. Not a big deal since the last datecode should be at the bottom unless you install like CreoView or Illustrate to that directory. Once MXXX gets out we should be good.

Re: Can we Hide or Not accessible the Pro/program relations in assembly for external user of that assembly?

Relations and Pro/PROGRAM statements can't be locked.

If a user has permission to change a part, then they have permission to change ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in that part.

The only options are:

1.)  Don't allow users to change the part at all.  (Use network file permissions, PDM system, etc.)

2.)  Use Model Check to verify that the Relations and Parameters are still the way you want them.

(I don't think you can use Model Check to verify Pro/PROGRAM statements though...)

3.) Use a 3rd party application to manipulate the models instead.

Again, it doesn't matter if the user is internal or external.  If they can open the model in Creo, they can view/change anything.  The most you can do is try to prevent them from saving their changes back into the system.

Creo Academic to Creo Commercial?

Is there is a way to open my files from the academic version of Creo 2.0 to a commercial version?

There were many useful applications I did during school and I would like to use them as resources.

Andrew,

if your school owns special CONVERSION license module, then it is possible to convert academic files to commercial files.

If you want to present your work to somebody, then you can probably use Creo View Express (free version downloadable from PTC web).

disapointed with creo

I just started again working with Creo 2.0 a couple months ago. I used Pro_E back when it was DOS based. I have used Solidworks and Inventor also. I am very disapointed that Creo has not changed that much since I used Pro_E . Seems like they keep adding things and not fixing the problems that need to be addressed. I was really blown away with the fact that Creo still does not count all the holes in a detail. Very sad.

I was really looking forward to using it again it was the best program out there when i used it long ago. it seems it is very far behind the others now.

After further investigation, the video card installed in the computer when purchase (before I got to the company) is not a PTC supported card. We installed the latest drivers for the card and for now the problem has gone away. Not sure why this started after the server crashed, but I am going to call this solved for now.

Here is the Platform Support page Jonathan mentioned.  This is a listing specific machines that have been tested and are supported/certified.  He is also correct when saying unlisted machines may never have issues but having a supported machine is a great reassurance.

http://support.ptc.com/partners/hardware/current/support.htm

You didn't mention what release of Creo you intend to use but, for example, here is the Lenovo list for Creo 2.0.

http://support.ptc.com/WCMS/files/138218/en/lenovo_creo2_p10.pdf

Note that the list is not mix-and-match.  For instance, if you have a ThinkPad W510, only the NVIDIA Quadro FX880M is supported for Creo Parametric 2.0.

Glad you got it working again, Dale.  I know how frustrating that can be.

Platform Support (Techincal/Computer Specifications)

Clint,

Thank you for posting the link to the place to find the compatibility of the computer with the software.

Sluething to see how I could find that on my own was a little more difficult. I found the link in the Quick Links on the Support home page.

https://support.ptc.com

In the Platform support, thing seem to be quazi alphabetical, but since they look alphabetical, you may miss what you are looking for. Here are a couple of examples:

platform3.PNG

platform4.PNG

Also, could you add this to the drop down menu from the top:

platform5.PNG

I would have search these tabs first to try and find the information and would expected it to be under the Support Tab if not on an earlier tab.

Thanks,

Dale

Welcome to the forum, Scott.

I am a long time user as well and have also used many platforms.  I know where you are coming from.

I never got past the basics of Pro|E back in the day because that is all I needed.  It was still ANSI Y14.5 and the implementation was sufficient at the time other than the -always displayed- datum tags.  This problem exists to this day!  So when I say I feel your pain, I really do.

Being semi-retired has given me a lot of time to explore the rest of what Creo has to offer.  Most of the functions have been there in one form or another, but working with it today makes it new to me.  The sheetmetal module, although frustrating as it is, is useful.  Mechanism is fun, along with Animation makes it useful.  And now with Creo -finally- improving real time rendering... I am seriously looking forward to that when M010 comes out.  I never before used surface feature either.  A lot of new-to-me avenues there as well.

Hang in there and get your pace back to where it use to be.  You might just find it to do what you need and then some.  Also be sure to post your queries here so you can get answers or feel free to share your old tip and tricks, also known as "Pro|WorkArounds^tm" (trademark belonging to all PTC users).

One thing I can say about Creo over most other platforms... My old PTC Designer files still open in Creo.  Now that's a feat!
