Re: Importing DXF files into Isodraw 7.3 M030 not working

Heather,

I reproduced the problem on my PC.

I opened your DXF file in Notepad and realized that $ACADVER=AC1009. This is AutoCAD Release 11,12 format, i.e. very old format.

I opened your DXF file in Creo Parametric 2.0 as drawing and reexported it in AutoCAD Release 2007 format. This file can be opened in Isodraw.

So ... it looks like Isodraw does not understand old AutoCAD format ...

Hello,

I am inserting a symbol into a drawing.  This is a significant symbol (pentagon) with a number inside of it to be used for quality purposes.  I would like to know a way to insert the symbol on a certain layer so I can show and hide it, also to have each instance increase by one number sequentially.

What is the best way to accomplis this?

I'm also trying to utilize this feature.  We have a relations in our sheet parts that fill in a filed on the drawing for thickness, flat length, & flat width. These are currently either manually tied to a dimension symbol or a value just entered manually.  I want these to automatically be filled via bounding box dimensions.

I have found that if you create a flat pattern you get 2 feature parameters for lenth/width. ref: http://support.ptc.com/appserver/wcms/relnotes/note.jsp?&im_dbkey=135239&icg_dbkey=826

but i am having trouble getting those parameters to report, possibly because they are at the feature level instead of the part.

Also, if you click "switch dimensions" when viewing the bounding box preview you will see 2 dimension symbols pxxx and pxxx (it is buggy and hard to get them to show correctly but they're there).  So I've tried using these symbols to populate my fields, but the actual number of that pxxx symbol is unpredictable (might be p122 & p123 or p627 & p628, and so on).

So, does anybody have any hints on how to put these bounding box values into a relation automatically and consistently?

thanks

Hello Tom,

Thank you for your prompt reply. This indeed does sound similar to the issue we are experiencing.

If I may ask a second question: Is there an option for users to download Creo Parametric 2.0 M130 early? I see up to M120 and, in the release list, M130 is being scheduled for next month.

Thanks

If this is a new license purchase, you should have received access to a very comprehensive training regimen.  And then there is the Learning Connector that also is provided for one year with a new license.

If you simply inherited a seat then you do have some searching to do.  However, you might get your employer to sign you up for the PTC university to get you through the basics.

Otherwise, yes, it is a lot of work to get up to speed in Creo.  This forum is probably the second most helpful resource to get you through the rough spots.

I'm using the Student Edition of Creo. Does that give me access to the "training regimen" or Learning Connector you were talking about?

Do you know of any books, software, or websites that could help someone get familiar with Creo?

What exactly is PTC University? I know that it's some kind of learning software, but I want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth. It costs $85, right?

I have no idea what the PTC university costs but you definitely want to to talk to someone about it.  Students should qualify for a significant discount.  The PTC University is lesson/lab/quiz based with provided lesson files.  As a quick start program, I definitely reommend it.

Are there any free resources that could get someone at the very least familiar with the basics of Creo? Something similar to the Creo Parametric Quick Reference Card, but more in depth.

I mean, I'm sure PTC has to offer some sort of free manual to help beginners get familiar with using Creo Parametric. I just don't know where to find it.

Thank you very much for the response, but I already know about the free videos at Learning Exchange, and that you can just look up random tutorials on YouTube.

But like I mentioned in the OP, the PTC University (Learning Exchange) videos aren't organized in a way designed to teach beginners. I remember reading a post on another forum mentioning how the Learning Exchange videos are pretty good, but that they're organized horribly. And that's honestly been my experience while trying to find videos to teach myself. If you are an absolute beginner with Creo, it might be difficult to figure out which Learning Exchange videos you want to check out, and in which order to watch them in.

And I've already looked for some beginner tutorials on YouTube. This video, for example, does a better job of explaining the basics of Creo Parametric than any other video I've found thus far:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qug3t7k9hFw

Though, by the time I found the above video, I had already figured out how to do all of that through trial and error. But hopefully someone who stumbles upon this thread in the future looking for help finds the video helpful.

And like I've already said, I'm looking for some kind of written user manual, similar to the Creo Parametric Quick Reference Card, but more in depth. Does PTC offer any official Creo Parametric manuals?

J-Link + Swing GUI

I've created a J-Link application, which has a swing GUI. On click of a UI command button, I'm creating a part files (simulating File--> New Part). The same thing when wanted to simulate through a swing GUI in synchronous mode, the GUI gets created, but when I push the button in the GUI, the GUI hangs. Can any one help me in making the swing GUI work with PROE?

class MenuButtonListener extends DefaultUICommandActionListener {          publicvoid OnCommand() {                    try{                                   //This works                                   Session curSession = pfcGlobal.GetProESession();                                   Model tryModel = curSession.CreatePart("Testing");                                 tryModel.Display();                                    //This doesn't work                                   //How to make it work                                        csProe.StepToProeGui.createAndShowGUI();                      }catch (Exception x) {                              STEP_TO_PROE.printMsg("something wrong: " + x);                              x.printStackTrace();                              System.out.println("------------------------------------");                    }          }}

PTC does not offer manuals for sale unless you sign up for a course, a real on site class, not the online versions.  I have addressed my concerns about this to PTC, even this past Friday, I was in a phone conference with PTC stating that they need to make their classroom manuals available for purchase without having to take the class. But I think you were looking for something for free.  I don't ever think PTC will give any intro manuals for free.  After all, they are in the business to make money.

ProE Wildfire 5.0 Student Edition Lincence Lost

Hey there,

I'm a Student from Austria and I have bought that Student DVD at the University of Applied Science in Kufstein on 30/12/10. I used it on my Parallels Windows Partition on Mac and it worked pretty fine.

Now i have got a new Mac and deleted this Windows Partition and the Licence I have created on that time.

Is there any possibility to recreate this Licence to work with that DVD again?

I tried to use the online Licence Tools but i have no permission as we have created Basic Accounts i guess.

So now im sitting infront of my kind of useless ProE Wildfire 5.0 Student Edition DVD and have no clue what to do.

Hope anybody of you could help me with this issue.

Best Regards

Dominik

That's roughly how we do it now.  Far from an automatic process.

If you look in the flat pattern feature, you can see there are parameters in that feature. they should be like below.

You can pull those parameters into notes or symbols or those types of things.
