I forgot to mention that the large flat surface is tapered from the tall vertical sides and gets narrow toward the small vertial sides.

I think the challenge for parts like this is to make the flat pattern setup efficient for shear and punch operations. For instance, the shape would be very different if you cut the flat pattern...

The Blend feaute became the 1st feature so it gives you a choice for the offset direction and thickness in one go, and yes, it solidified directly and recognized all the bends.
