I think the challenge for parts like this is to make the flat pattern setup efficient for shear and punch operations.  For instance, the shape would be very different if you cut the flat pattern "square" of it you want to add specific miter angels.  What is nice about using the sheetmetal is that you can unbend, clean up punch orientations, and bend-back. 

 

This is one where you miter the flanges but maintain a straight shear on the leading edge.  This only requires a punch set at 45 degrees.  This was created by adding the bend radius after the Blend feature using the conversion tool.

Of course, this all depends on several factors, but it gives you options when it comes to manufacturing decisions weighed against design requirements.
