Re: How to change the balloon into a report symbol value?

Hey,

How would you use the rpt.rel.qty which is used to change the qty to something different in this case. I tried but it puts the custom qty on top in a split balloon, and the regular qty on the bottom. I want the index on the top and the custom qty on the bottom. Any suggestions?

I finally found it !

To use these command line options, once the analysis is created, you have to select Run>Batch... instead of starting it within Pro/Mech.

Pro/Mech will then create a batch file which has to be modified in order to add the command line option.

As an example, I have added the contact penetration option here:

.............

call "C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo Elements\Pro5.0\mech\bin\msengine.bat" "Analysis_name"  -i "Analysis_folder" -w "Temp_folder" -solram 1000    -ascii     -modeltype  mda         -num_threads ALL -contact_penetration 0.001

Then you just have to launch the analysis by double-clicking the *.bat file. (if Pro/Mech is still running, you can look at the run status in real time)

Can you provide a sketch or diagram to show what you're looking to calculate?

Also look in My Computer for the exact model number of your i7 - it should say something like "i7 3840QM".

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html shows the fastest i7 to be 2.75 times as fast as the slowest, so it makes a difference.

However, from your description of sudden 'chokes' I suspect memory is the most likely issue, or possibly a 32bit limitation as Doug says.

Thanks for al the answers, it seems like it a combination of  the memory and the cpu. Did abit of testing today.

Its a 64bit version fyi.

Yes, the relationship is simply the cross-sectional area * density.  The problem is finding the true cross sectional area.  The problem is further complicated by the fact that A36 (assuming you are using an American standard since you listed lb/ft.) only specifies minimum radii for the leg radii and inside radius.  It's up to the manufacturer to stay within the specified limits but otherwise free to roam within.  Finally, from one run to the next, the tool wears so actual dimensions will vary. The published weights are calculated from theoretical dimensions and then rounded.  You might be able to call your distributer and find out what they are using for radii, although I've found that it is very difficult to get that information.  From there you can write a formula to compute the area and then multiply that by the density to get the lb/ft.

Another approach depends on how accurate you need to be.  You can mulitply your values by a fudge factor that approximates the radius.  For instance:

L1 = leg 1 in inches

L2 = leg 2 in inches

t = thickness in inches

D= density .28 lb/in^3

X= 12in  (for conversion to lb/ft)

F= 1.02

L1*t+(L2-t)*t  * D * X * F

Without the fudge factor you will probably get to within 4%.  With the fudge factor, you can probably get to within 1-2% and with rounding you may not even tell the difference on most sizes. Otherwise, yes, you will need to write a very lengthy if-then statement.

I calculated the 1.02 fudge factor based on a stock list from Ryerson Tull.  I computed the sectional area using thickness and leg lengths and then multiplied by the density.  From there I divded by the published values and subtracted that from 1.  I took the average over several sizes and got 0.02, so the factor becomes 1.02.  Your mileage may vary.

If you do find out manufacturer radii or what they use to compute their areas, I'd love to hear what you or anyone else has found.

Forgot to mention that the above applies to A36 steel.  Other materials and standards may vary widely.

Always wondered why they use the outline of a "teenage mutant ninja turtle" head as an icon for accessing the sketcher palette.

Anyone?

You better run and hide, you've publicized the true identity of the PTC programmers!

Is it surprising though that a bunch of turtles are behind the works at PTC, been waiting for years to get things fixed...um....did I just say that aloud?

Contacting Brent Drysdale re ProE/Croe stuff

Hi Folks,

Sorry that this is a broadcast thing but I am changing jobs and my old work email will no longer get to me if you have saved it for some reason.  You can post something here and I can reply to you with details if you want.

Still intend to be using ProE/Creo for the next few years so will continue still be part of this forum (and the older exploder) just on a different email address.

And since this is so general it is also a good opprtunity to thank people who have helped me along the way [and I still need it from time to time ]

Regards, Brent.

Sorry but I'm not expert into manage batch files...

can you explain much better the procedure to obtain what you have done?

What I've understood is:

  1. select the name of the analysis in the pro/e tab menu
  2. Run/Batch ; and creating the file batch
  3. now I have to "edit" that file but if I made double click on it, it starts the analysis

can you post the screen where you seen how editing that file?

I suffer a hard crash yesterday with things in various states of having been saved. I was wondering if there was a save all option. When I searched, I found this product suggestion. So this doesn't exist unless it has been added since then.

In windows explorer, right-click on the batch file and choose "Edit"

Datum Point or Plane from sketch

I currently have a couple of construction circles on a sketch and I would like to make the intersection of two contruction circles a datum point. Is this possible? It seems to not recognize this point.

After I exited the sketch, I was able to create a datum axis from the portion of the curve I made in the sketch from the center point shown.

Ok, I got it now. Thanks a lot!

Also, that tip about the coordinate system was really helpful, thanks again.

You are still on WF5, right?

In Creo, you can add a datum point in a sketch.  If it remains a sketch, that point will be available as a reference feature for later use.  If the sketch is a section, and extruded, the point will become an axis.  Similarly, if you add a datum style centerline in the sketch, you also get a datum axis as a reference.

I find this to be a very useful feature... Except I would like the point to remain a point on extrusions.  Simple enough to add one, but its current behavior or somewhat useless.
